Do you ever find yourself walking along the road, and stopping suddenly and thinking to yourself, “What the hell is a piano doing in the middle of the road?” I found myself doing that today. It was rather an odd thing for a piano to be sitting in the middle of the road. It isn’t normally where one would put a piano.

I suppose in the grand scheme of things if the piano was destroyed or damaged in some way, as if it had been dropped on a person or just fallen out of the sky for no adequately explained reason and been smashed into a million bits, that would be fine. That might even be normal. There could be a large rise in the number of slapstick related deaths or injuries. Those crazy silent film enthusiast might be making their move to take back the film industry. I can’t be sure, I haven’t been following the news lately. Is slapstick now the best way to bash someone?

But that just wasn’t the case. Here we have a piano in the middle of the road in perfect condition. No scratches anywhere to be seen. It would probably work if I tried playing something. I wonder if it sounds any good. Maybe not. I don’t think that the middle of the road would offer the best acoustic environment.

I’m getting side tracked. I feel like I should go up and try it out, see if it’s any good, but I could get in trouble. It could be part of some street art. Someone may have put it there to be played. Perhaps they wanted to give a free concert in the middle of the road? That’s an odd thing to do. But then again, there is a piano in the middle of the road. What kind of crazy person would leave a piano in the middle of the road?

It’s a nice looking piano. It probably sounds nice too. I could try it out. No. Better not. Don’t want to get in trouble with anyone. Wonder if it’s expensive. I have no idea how much a piano would cost. I don’t even know what a good one would look like. Well, maybe I would. It’s not all that hard to tell when something is very expensive. But this one… I just don’t know. It doesn’t look cheap or anything, but at the same time it doesn’t look super expensive either. Must be in the middle price range or something. I guess it’s an okay piano.

There are other people crowding around now. Well, not really that many. They’re sort of passing by. Wait, do they think this is my piano? I am hanging around it, so they might think it’s mine. Geez, I shouldn’t stay here too long. Someone might come up to me and tell me to move this thing. They may actually think it’s my piano. What kind of crazy person would leave a piano in the middle of the road?

I mean here we have an okay looking piano – not horrible looking or anything, but it’s not super duper fantastic either. It’s just a piano. In the middle of the road. Piano’s aren’t cheap, so why the hell would someone just dump it in the middle of the road?

This just doesn’t make any sense. It boggles the mind. Some crazy person has just left a piano in the middle of the road, a prime target for a car or something to hit. There is a chance that okay looking piano could be ruined. People shouldn’t leave pianos in the middle of the road. Crazy street art like this is well…crazy! What the hell can leaving a piano in the middle of the road mean?

Is it some sort of comment on the underbelly of pain? A political message? Are they saying that people should pay more attention to the arts? That they are in danger of being destroyed because we’re not paying enough attention to them? Does the piano signify humans and a car that hits it the enormous problems we face as a people? Does it tell us what we should be doing?

Oh… Someone just came and took the piano. They were moving it into the house. Guess they had to put other stuff in first. That would be why there’s a moving truck parked near that house.

Guess it was just a piano after all.
